Chester F. Coons, Jr.

Chester F. Coons, Jr. 82 of Wesley Health Care Center formerly of Mechanicville died August 2nd at his residence following a lengthy illness. 

Born March 14, 1926 , he was the son of the late Chester F. and Alice Metcalf Coons; he lived most of his life in the Mechanicville/Halfmoon area. 

Mr. Coons served in the Navy from 1944 – 1946 and was a member of the original crew which commissioned the USS Randolph in 1944,  He later served in the Air Force from 1949 – 1953. 

He was a proud member of the Teamsters, driving for several large companies throughout his career. He was also a school bus driver for the Shenendehowa School dist and the City of Mechanicville. He enjoyed watching baseball games on the television, and was a big NY Yankees fan, He also enjoyed reading the Times Union cover – to – cover each day.

Besides his parents, Mr. Coons is predeceased by his wife, Eileen Ives Coons, to who he was married in 1950; his beloved German Shepard, Heidi; and a brother Norman E. Coons.

Mr. Coons is survived by five children, Diane M. Starks and her husband, Bill of Stillwater, Cheryl Mahoney and her husband Jim, of Louisiana, Carol Ricucci of Maryland, Chester F. Coons, III and his wife Nanci of Lake George, and Richard J. Coons of Schenectady.  He is also survived by a brother Robert J. Coons and his wife, Joan, of Mechanicville. Also survived by 10 Grandchildren, several  and great grandchildren and many Nieces, Nephews, and cousins.

Family and Friends may call Wednesday  from 4 - 7 at the Dunn Funeral Homes, Inc. 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral home with the Reverend Patty Girard Officiating.

Interment will be in Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville.

 The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Stephen S. Sgambati, Jr. and his staff for their support throughout Mr. Coon’s illness. We also wish to Thank the staff at Wesley Health Care Center for their kind and considerate care during his extended stay.

The family request that memorial contributions may be made to either the American Lung Association, PO Box 15050, Albany, NY 12212-5050 or to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, PO Box 96173, Washington, DC 20090-6173 in his memory.

To Daddy...

 

I know you are with Mom and Heidi now and I am glad you did not suffer.  I wanted to see you one last time but your grandson Jerry is getting married this Saturday the 9th.  There have been preparations I've needed to do to get ready for it here.

 

You are in my heart and in my prayers and I am glad that Diane, Cheryl & Jim, Fred & Nanci, and Richie were able to see you tonite.  May you rest in peace and know that you and Mom will live in my heart forever.
