Henry Norman Jones

Henry Norman Jones, a US Army veteran of WW II, died unexpectedly at Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, Glen Burnie MD, on June 21, 2008, while attending an annual reunion of his comrades of the Third Field Artillery Observation Battalion.  He had participated in the Battle of Normandy and was very proud of his service to his country.  His name is not only permanently inscribed on The Wall of Liberty but also in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Registry.  He was a member of NY Post #0001 of the American Legion. Prior to military service he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He was born January 30, 1922, in Schaghticoke NY and was the son of the late Madawg Evan and Edith Lesson Jones.  He was a 1939 graduate of the former Schaghticoke High School.  On December 13, 1943, he married Doris E. Tulloch in Troy NY.  Doris predeceased him on May 6, 2008.

A resident of the Town of Guilderland NY, he had resided at Atria-Guilderland, an assisted-living community, since April 25, 2008,  and prior to that for over 55 years at East Lydius Street.  Since his move to the Atria, he had enjoyed playing bingo, cards and Pokeno.  Along with traveling, gardening, reading and telling jokes, he enjoyed woodworking and had crafted many novelty items and furniture pieces. 

He was a lifetime member of the Fort Hunter Fire District, serving as Secretary/Treasurer for over 25 years, retiring in 1984.  He was recognized in 1992 for over 15 years of service to the Eddy Family Association.  At last year’s 50th Annual Jones Family Reunion, both he and his wife were recognized for their many years of service and contributions to that event.  He retired from Price Chopper Supermarkets in 1984 after 35 years of service and had been a meat cutter and meat department manager, last working at their Westmere store.

He is survived by his daughter Antoinette (Barry) Anderson of Danvers MA; grandchildren: Thomas (Jessica) Anderson of Decatur GA, John Christopher Anderson of Danvers MA, and Patrick (Cheryl) Burke of Fishers IN; and great-granddaughter Alexis Burke of Fishers IN; several sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his wife, he was also predeceased by his daughter, Geraldine M. Burke; his brothers, Henry Evan, Llywellyn Palmer, Erven Leslie, Arthur Henry, Robert Francis, Gordon Richard and Frederick James “Bud” Jones; and his sisters, Lorraine Carknard, Helen “Nell” Grant and Harriette Rose.

  Relatives and Friends may call Thursday from 4 – 8 PM at the Chase Funeral Home 173 Main Street, Schaghticoke, N.Y. 

A requiem will be held Friday Morning at St. George’s Episcopal Church  912 Rt. 146 Clifton Park at 10:00 AM with the Reverend  Mother Lauri Rohr, Rector Officiating

Burial will be next to his wife Doris in the Corinth Rural Cemetery

Memorial contributions may be made to Patient Activity Fund of the Samuel S. Stratton, V. A. Medical Center Hospital 113 Holland Ave. Albany NY 12208   in his memory.
